In October 2010 he became the church's pastor. He is married to Elaine and they have 4 children. He worked for nearly 11 years as a computer programmer. Elaine has a PhD in Chemistry.

Ewart Helyar has spent his life in Christian ministry, including being Pastor here at South Street, and, immediately prior to that, being Pastor at Lindfield Free Church. He also worked for a number of years with the Railway Mission. His wife Ethelwyn went to be with the Lord in 2006. Although well into his nineties, Ewart still enjoys a weekly game of tennis or badminton!

Tony Thompson was asked to a Brethren Assembly by neighbours when living in Crawley and came to know Christ after attending there regularly for about four months. He and Judith were married in 1990. Preparing for ‘early retirement’ they moved to Eastbourne in 2005 and settled at South Street Free Church in 2006. Tony was a Civil Engineer by profession and Judith was a nurse.
